I’ve been growing this Begonia that is supposedly from Northern Vietnam for the past year. I was really surprised to see how strange it is. It’s upright rhizomatous but has an extremely thin stem, barely big enough to hold the leaves up.
Early last month it started to show flowers, however not a single one has opened since then, dropping eventually after a week or so. This could be a condition thing but I think that’s unlikely. I believe it is probably a natural hybrid that is now sterile. It definitely has a similar look to species like Begonia pengii (but not peltate) which I’ve seen it mislabeled multiple times now.
However, what the other parent could be to produce such a thin stem is beyond me.
